It wasn't even so much as hinted at with flavor text, because they didn't have Dex entries back then. The only time you ever saw Megas having real consequences was in the Anime, which for all intents is an adaptation. And even then, Korrina's Lucario freaked out it had a discipline issue (pic related). Not because Mega Evolving is inherently unhealthy.
