By that logic there was no point to play Gen 5 either since bland ass region (Kanto) and shitty pixelized sprites were already findable in previous game
Unless of course you think that an iceacream pokemon is enough of an innovation to make buying the games worth it, but then I'd argue 3D models, amie and Mega-Evolutions were nice innovations as well
