The performance issues in XY is a trade off between the models looking like shit or the frame rate being shit. I think they made the correct choice because FPS isn’t that important in a turn based game and the main appeal is looking at the Pokemon.

It’s not like DPPt or SV where the performance is only bad because of their incompetent programming.

Yes they do. It's either lag or shit looking Pokemon. There's no inbetween because the 3DS has garbage specs. Almost every 3DS game has terrible looking models but hides it by having the camera not zoom in on them. Doesn't work in Pokemon when you constantly have your Pokemon up close right in front of the camera. The only other 3DS game I've played that actually had good looking models are the Ace Attorney games and those games also have frame drops when there are heavy animations.
