I went for a pokemon g/s/c style visuals for the pokemon school fangame. If you don't know it's a fangame based on lvl 1-30 archetypical pokemon of their type, set in a school where you battle school clubs for funding and rights to use activity rooms. You are in the pokemon fan club of course.
Now I'm making this in Godot but I have some questions regarding generic movement:
Do you think it's better to block out outdoor areas with trees or other impassable terrain, or simply have camera bounds stopping you from seeing furhter?
In the same manner, is it better to have black void around the walls of inside areas (like houses) or make rooms at least one screen large and have camera bounds?
Also what do you think about multiple directional input? I don't mean walking diagonally, but being able to stop your character moving left or right when holding down both left and right buttons ?
Also the grid like movement, what do you think about collisions with NPCs? Do you think the player should always get priority when both him and an NPC are moving towards the same square?
