Say there's a never before seen protest about the missing Pokemon to the point where shareholders are pressuring GameFreak to include the full dex again.
GameFreak will now have the argument that they did in fact give the fans what they wanted, but we'll still be left with bad animation, bad graphics, bad programming, bad optimization, bad game balance, bad grinding for competitive viability, bad postgame content and bad online, but since all the normies that got riled up about #BringBackNationalDex think everything is good now, they'll eat it up.
I would be okay if my favorites were put on ice and had to assemble a new team - if it meant I got a great product in return - but as long as we have Masuda and The GameFreak B-boys at the helm, we're just getting the worst of both worlds.
If an unprecedented level of negative feedback could cause a change in development, only two situations would be preferable for the long-term health of the series: Either GameFreak massively restructures themselves, getting rid of bad influences like Masuda and creating a more efficient environment that is more receptive to change, or for future mainline Pokemon titles to be developed by another studio. If GF themselves don't have the desire to put their best and brightest behind the biggest moneymaker in the world, the Pokemon Company should be willing to let another game studio take a stab at it.
Remember, Sword and Shield should be great games, not passable ones. Having all 1000 Pokemon available won't make them better than HGSS or B2W2, and the last thing Masuda needs is more excuses as to why Gen 8 is as bare-bones as it is.
