The 16th century term "camera" refers to a rounded chamber or building. It comes from the even older Latin "camera" where it means either a vault, or an arched chamber.
Now there is a /slight/ discrepancy in the dates, as this definition of camera entered the English vernacular in the mid 1600s, while the Kings James bible translation was written in 1611... But y'know, looking at old definitions for words is fun!
