FR/LG and OR/AS have no rebattleable Gym Leaders, dumbed down gameplay from the originals (lower levels), a very small post game plot (Sevi islands, Delta Episode) with a copy-paste battle facility from the previous title (R/S, X/Y, Battle Tower, Maison). Both REMAKES came before the inevitable 3rd version (Emerald, Z / X2/Y2/ Whatever).
HG/SS, meanwhile, had an improved plot, higher leveled trainers, more post game options, rebattleable Gym Leaders and a proper battle facility, albeit taken from Platinum. This game came AFTER the inevitable 3rd version of Gen 4.
