>As much as I love so many Ash ships (pearl, advance, coma, amour, etc.), there’s a reason I keep coming back to poke. And there’s a reason why I, personally, only endgame Ash and Misty. It could be argued that it’s because it’s “my childhood kicking in” since Misty was the first pokegirl. Or that I love the way Ash and Misty interact with one another, and to be honest, I’m inclined to agree with that. To an extent, I think part of the reason I ship Ash and Misty as heavily as I do is because of nostalgia. And I know a big part of the reason that I ship Ash and Misty is because I feel that their personalities blend well together.
>But it’s more than just that. To me, Misty represents Ash’s home. Ash is someone who travels all over the world. He’s visited six regions and has traveled through Kanto more than once. He collects pokemon from many places and has made so many friends along the way. The friends who he’s made, to me, represent Ash’s journey in their specific home region (i.e. his relationship with May represents his journey through Hoenn, his relationship with Iris and Cilan represent his journey through Unova, etc.). With these friends Ash holds the memories of his travels in those lands—the good and the bad. At the end of each region Ash always parts ways with the friends he’s made there, because their time with him in that region is over. His friends will go off and continue reaching for their own dreams—to become a top coordinator, a dragon master, a pokemon doctor, etc. And at the end of each region Ash always returns home, to Kanto. In the end, Kanto is his home and he will always return there when he’s become weary from his journeys and is wondering where to go next.
