>>37120967They don't really have a special role aside from their ability to flee between dimensions. They are seemingly just a really strong species of pokemon from ultra space. They do absorb sunlight and moonlight for power, and they have a superficial resemblance to the celestial bodies. However, they are not emissaries from the sun and moon. They probably just showed up to dump their baby space fart in a safe location to grow up in before they beat up the tapus and forced them to raise it. The alolans ended up just going with it and attributed things to them/ built them monuments. It helped that they were related to the energy pouring out from ultra space that they seemed fascinated with. I think it's a pretty neat subversion compared to the literal pokegods we've gotten for a while.
