What about the National Dex? Hordes and Super Training? Getting proper EVs in Gen 7 was a fucking chore and so was levelling coming from hordes and Blissey Bases.
What about optional areas and backtracking? Alola doesn't have a single route that loops back to where you need to go in the story even though that was a staple feature of a Pokemon region in every game prior.
What about being able to ride your bike without retard gear? Hell, BDSP took one of XY's most inconsequential but still neat features in allowing you to choose what color bike you get. That alone makes them both infinitely better, more replayable, and interesting than anything Gen 7-8 proper have to offer.
All of this is ignoring how the level design in Alola and Galar are fundamentally fucked and structured in a way that gives the player zero agency in playing the game.
Listen, BDSP are half the remakes they could have and should have been and XY are mediocre in the best sense of the word, but stop trying to force your revisionism in order to make your shitty childhood yokai watch ripoff look good.
It's been half a decade and we STILL haven't recovered from how badly Gen 7 fucked the series, to the point where Sword and Shield was basically Gen 7-lite. Take your infinitesimally small head outside of your ass.
