It's all in the posing, saturation and animation. In battle the pokemon should have a neutral position but it should be more of a stance like a fighting game rather then them literally standing.
If they are going to cut corners it they can re use animations for example charizard, flygon and dragonite can all re use the same lean forward mouth opening fire breathe animation with some slight tweaks. Same with punches kicks or chops for most fighting types.
