Johto is so comfy. I was aware of pokemon during gen 1, but I was not really into it outside of some episodes of the anime. Was more of a digimon guy Gold was my first game in the series, and my god, was it magical. I love the color plalette, the music and pokemon selection. I still think Johto along with Hoenn, have the best selection of pokemon overall, with designs that are varied and unique. One of my favorite experiences was learning where Heracross was and catching it. I also love the hell out of the happiness mechanic, made the pokemon feel more real, along with gender choices and breeding. Gen 2 did quite a bit in giving life to the pokemon world.
My fondest pokemon memories was playing on Stadium 2 with my friends, using our caught mons and playing the mini games. Nothing in this series has yet compared to that experience since.
