What went so wrong? Why did Quilava lose his badass mohawk and have 90% of his final form design be his chest of all places? Why is the Chikorita line so plain? How did they fuck up the obvious water/dark typing for Feraligatr, and even worse, made him look like a goofball?
Its time for people to come to terms that Johto still remains the only region in the best years of Pokemon to not stand on its own two legs. It just rides the coattails of a better region, and its the main reason why the following games weren't connected to Johto the same way Johto was connected to Kanto. In fact that's literally the player backstory in Ruby and Sapphire, that they were so tired of Johto's shit they packed up and left.
