>>57336349I've always liked the idea that Machamp is just what happens when Machoke removes his limiter belt, although it's always been kind of inconsistent whether he had it or not. Like he has what looks like a belt in his Gen 1 sprites, but not in his early concept art.
I also think he benefits from Gen 1 sprite jank. He looks kinda goofy but also suitably monstrous, like he really exemplifies the idea of a cool monster with something silly to it.
