Once upon a time there was a lake, and in the middle of that lake a tiny boat, and on that boat a poor fisherman who couldn't fish enough to feed his family. One day, at sunset, he was giving the last try with his Old Rod, his nets empty as his stomach, when an ugly fish Pokèmon jumped out of the water and into his boat.
"Finally, something to feed my family!"
Happy, he strolled back to his old shack, where his only son was waiting for his return.
"Daddy, daddy! Who's that Pokèmon?"
"It's a... uh..."
It was a peculiar Pokèmon indeed, the like of which has never been seen before around those parts.
"It's beautiful! Can I have it, daddy?"
"Beautiful, you say? And here I was thinking of raising you as a fisherman like your old dad! It may be tasty, and that's all that matters!"
And he was just handing it to his wife, when his son stopped him:
"Please don't eat it daddy, mommy! I'll take good care of it!"
The two poor peasants looked at him, puzzled, and then at each other. Their son was usually so quiet and gloomy, and maybe a friend would have helped more than a meal, for once. And so, with empty stomach they went to bed.
From that day onward, the fisherman would return from work with his net full of fish Pokèmon. He and his wife would occasionally thank the Feebas for the good luck it brought upon them, but its only answer was an empty look. The only one to praise it constantly was their son, who kept telling him things like "How beautiful you are!" and "You're my best friend ever!".
Until one night, a big light came from the aquarium they put it in, and behold, the ugly fish was now a beautifully colored pokèmon, the first of its species.
The fisherman and her wife stood down to their knees and praised its beauty and grace, while their son stepped forward and hugged it tight, so tight that when the misterious Pokèmon flew away it brought the kid with it.
And down into the abyss.
From that day onward, the fisherman could never fish a thing in that lake.
