>>46032132Beta Girafarig is also a fantastic example of a scrapped light/dark motif, and a pokemon that was rendered fucking bizarre by the removal of its underlying concept.
Girafarig was originally Dark/Normal. At some point, Girafarig was redesigned: Dark was replaced with Psychic-type (???) and its evil head was trimmed down into a weird Wobbuffet-type thing. The changes to Girafarig seem aimed at downplaying the original duality theme of the Pokemon. What prompted this change, if Dark-type remained in the game?
Twinz is fucking terrible, but it has to be addressed. This ugly piece of shit is DARK/NORMAL type. I humbly ask you, what about this pokemon appears to be “Normal” to you? I’ve heard speculation that it was supposed to evolve into Girafarig because it comes before it in the dex, but that seems like bullshit. It was probably reworked into Wobbuffet, since they share a Pokedex slot. So, again, we have a twin/duality themed Pokemon with Dark/Normal typing. If someone could offer a compelling reason why GF would make this thing Normal-type I’d be interested in hearing it.
I think this is another case where Normal is a placeholder: I'll get through a couple more glaring examples, and then I'll make my case for Normal & Psychic being used this way.
