I think there's a one thing that most fakemon makers out there that completely miss the point of making a authentic look for it, is by not excessively using reference points. But you can as well keep it extremely subtle, by having multiple inspirations that are more than 3.
You need as well remember that Gamefreak often throw established things away with every gen to keep it interesting. Would we have a starter pokemon like Scorbunny in gen 4? Not at all, because it already has very distinct features that makes it stand out from other starters, which all starters need to have.
Here's how I would at least do it. Here, you can easily make a unique look for it by using shapes and doing them in a way that makes them look crazy enough.
