That means that outside of royalties (which isn't a small amount but still) They only really get a lot of money from the game sales (minus the cut Ninty and Creatures get)
Hiring interns/mercenary developers directly eats into the amount of cash they get from the game sales
Mind, GF isn't poor, they get a fuckton of cash anyway, but they're also the weakest link in the ownership chain and they'll milk what they have till they literally can't anymore
