If you got to make your own pokemon rival, what would it be? Hard Mode: no gary clone/just a pompous jerk without adding anything deeper.
here's my idea to start us off (1/2):
This might be a controversial opinion, but I think Hop had the potential to be one of the coolest rivals in the series. The fact that he gets the opposite legendary and you use them together to take down an ever greater bad is really, really fucking cool. Too bad everything else about him is terrible. So heres how I think the rival in pokemon Sword and Shield should have been.
>Hop either doesn't exist or isn't your official rival anymore. He can still take the pokemon weak to yours. Either way you battle him WAY less.
> The rival is the protagonist of the opposite gender.
>They have the same skin/hair color set that the player chooses.
>The rival is the players twin brother/sister.
>Dialogue about how you and your twin have been competitive your entire life, like you were born to be rivals.
>Your twin picks the starter strong against yours
>As the story progresses your twin gets new clothes, and maybe hair, but enough so you can still tell its them. If you change your hair color they will mention it/compliment you next time they see you.
>Your twin is one of the most constantly difficult battles in the game, always significantly higher level then the gym leaders in that area.
>As the story progresses, different story events happen differently depending on which version of the game your playing, like having to go to a certain place, doing a certain trial, whatever. But the important thing is whichever one happens to you, the one that would happen in the other game happens to your twin.
>Your twin uses exclusive pokemon from the opposite version
