Well, I did backup just in case and even still have it but it isn't useful because it's all encrypted. The 3DS changes the key every time it is formatted, it's almost treated as another console. Unless we could brute force the save somehow (without the 3DS), it's not useful. I knew this but backuped anyway because why not.
