I'm totally fine with the shallow pool of available Pokemon and no wild Pokemon battles in Pokemon Colosseum. In terms of world-building it makes perfect sense and it fits the entire feel of the region with it being a wild west desert that only had water drawn to Phenac a couple of generations ago and a region where most of the trainers want to kick your ass and take your Pokemon so their party can increase from 3 Pokemon to 4. I do admit that it does affect replay value of the game as the team you make is most likely going to be very similar each time but I think it's worth it.
