His whole thing of "lol let's kill everyone besides Team Flare" was just out of nowhere. He just when from "we need to make the world a more beautiful place" to "let's kill everyone in the world". That's too big of a jump to make with hardly any set up. Why does he feel that he needs to wipe the planet? What causes his fixation on beauty? How does he even know the professor? Just in general, what is his deal?
Maybe it's a bit much to complain about characterization in a Pokemon game, but Pokemon Black and White seemed to do alright in that department. Lysandre could have really been a cool villain if handled correctly, but nope.
It was also painfully obvious who he was the moment you meet him. Overall he was pretty much no more than a villain of a Saturday morning cartoon.
Though again, maybe it's silly to complain about characterizations in Pokemon games.
