It was the perfect chance to make Pokémon X2 and Pokémon Y2 (read as XZ and YZ) featuring red core Zygarde and blue core Zygarde partnering with a new protagonist to seek the other legendary pokemon (Yveltal in X2 and Xerneas in Y2) to stop a new Team Flare and then when Lyssandre returns from the death and takes control of both legendaries (defeating the previous Kalos protagonist) you team up with Zygarde who goes perfect to protect the natural life-death cycle of the world.
They could even capitalize on the norse myth references to say the climax has the end of the old world and the beginning of a new one (since Lyssandre actually wanted a new world), which is exactly what Ragnarok is and it would be a kino way to say "goodbye old Pokemon, the future is now, the next 20 years will be brand new and pure".
