>>48038985I like Pokemon for character designs and in general turn-based combat. It appeals to my tiny brain when I get online with a gimmick team and manage to kick the kid with a full team of legendaries in quickplay with some simple beam linoone and trace Gardevoir followup.
Completion in these games is fun like getting max trainer card tiers, frontier symbols, the whole Pokedex thing. And when I want something different a Nuzlocke is a good one to do. I am fully aware it's not the best game of its genre, but in terms of collectathon-ing, it's the best RPG series I can enjoy a different way each time.
In contrast, Xenoblade Chronicles has a bunch of stuff to collect, boss monsters to bully, and side quests to do, but on repeat playthroughs, I'm not encouraged to do these things again since the path to those rewards is the exact same. With Pokemon, I have a practical infinite number of ways I can handle both the main games and post games, making every playthrough just different enough to enjoy every time in spite of the exact same formula and average to mediocre quality in so many different departments.
That leads a little bit into what I'm looking forward to BDSP, I always liked the layout of the Sinnoh region and definitely its Nuzlocke challenges with explosive Geodude and whatnot, but some of its instrumentation bothers the hell out of me, and a remake has the perfect opportunity to iron out some of those old DS midi files. Of course there's some like Snowpoint City and a number of great route songs, but I'm looking forward to seeing them updated.
