I wonder how many people crying for pseudos to be available early more often have even used one in their playthroughs before. Gabite may skirt around the line of being a borderline good mon that's worth using with its typing (and its evolution Garchomp shatters that ceiling and is just plainly one of the strongest Pokemon in the entire game), but most of the others evolve really late and the pre-evos are not that glamorous to use. Dratini/Dragonair in gen 1 is Wrap spam: the monster unless you invest some TMs in it, and even then the stats aren't great, and Dragon type having good elemental resistances is not that important when a lot of gen 1 learnsets will have the opponents attack you with plain old Normal moves (or Poison). In the gen 3 remakes it's almost MORE anemic with Wrap getting gutted and the TM selection being weaker. Goomy is very underpowered until evolving at lv40. In HGSS, you can get Larvitar early and thus use a very mediocre Rock/Ground type for pretty much the entirety of the game. Good luck with using a Tyranitar for anything besides Red unless you grind your ass off.
It's fine if you live for the struggle and/or just have a soft spot for a specific monster, but if you're expecting to just have a perfectly ordinary playthrough with one of the pseudos on your team, think again.
