If you're playing a non-EX deck, losing a single prize still doesn't matter, especially when it means accelerating yourself by two. EX Pokemon have sort of made people forget exactly how much six prizes really is.
And do people not remember pic related being a Tier 1 card? Sure, it has a much more generic/better effect, but it and other cards through the game's history show that the self-KO mechanic is by no means inherently bad.
The only issue is the lack of a good partner, but it has two years to get one.

This sort of knee-jerk, strawman argument is what's leading people to believe this is an unusable set instead of just a below-average/bad one.
