>>12940695>Implying gen 2 was not the messiah5th gen was awesome (except for the metagame), probably the best GF has done since 2nd (in my opinion). The HMs aren't the most annoying thing on earth, TMs are reusable, the evil team actually has depth and character development, instead of just "o let's take over the world oop we fail", and they actually took the effort to give us a full set of new pokemon. Sure, the legendaries are abundant and somewhat unnecessary and some of the designs leave much to be desired, but everyone isn't going to like/dislike the same pokemon anyway, so just having that many created for people to choose from really sat well with me. I kinda felt like 2nd gen got a good balance of old/new, and then they tried to keep that up in 3rd and 4th, but I don't think it really worked (3rd gen being Hoenn feat. Zubat and Tentacool and 4th being "let's give everything an evolution so all you find in-game are old Pokemon). When the games were released and the catch phrase was "start from a whole new beginning", I didn't think much of it. But after playing the game, I kinda got it and now I really appreciate 5th gen.
