>>54713725Pixel art looks just fine on modern hardware. I'm not sure what you're asking here. The benefit isn't nostalgia, it's just art direction. Video games are a visual medium, if your visuals are shit it impacts the enjoyment of the game. It's not a nostalgic thing, some of the best titles of recent years are indie pixel art games.
Pixel art doesn't clash with animation, it just clashes with lazy automated animation. Be ause they weren't hand making frames, they did that shit with a fucking algorithm and stretched and contorted pixels. GF wanted the sprites to have 24/7 movement which is just stupid. Their artists are clearly better at 2D than 3D and their designs don't translate well into models.
Rather than trying to force animation for whatever the hell reason, which will look like dogshit, it's be much better to stick with key frames or stills that push as much interesting personality as possible. The limitations they had to work with meant that more care was put into what they showed you. Dynamic action poses are a thing of the past because now 3D models just have retarded idle animations.
Pixel art isn't about nostalgia. It can be, but modern pixel art doesn't necessarily call on that. Not even Black and White had any hints of nostalgia to them, they were very clearly polished with higher fidelity.
