Other things that are fun are monotype (though you'd have to arrange it so people don't ridiculously OP types), monogeneration (bretty cool too), roulette, or Battle Factory-esque tournaments (where you can trade one of your Pokémon for another persons, teams are randomly assigned with standard sets).
