Gen 1 may be janky, but it has a unique aesthetic and cool glitches to mess around with!

Gen 4 has many fun locales, sprawling routes and dungeons, and Platinum, one of the best and most definitive "third versions"!
Gen 5 has an ambitious story, was the first game since RBY to have a full original dex, and BW2 were a great sendoff to the DS games, and were clearly made with passion!

Gen 7 has a unique tropical setting, and fun characters like Team Skull, Kukui, and the Trial Captains!
Gen 8, despite its flaws. has great QOL and the DLCs were a step in the right direction in terms of worldbuilding!
Even if you don't like these games, you have to appreciate what they bring to the table.
