The gym would have three floors. The first floor has a forest aesthetic and the trainers have level appropriate evos or whatever of the basic grass type of the region.
The 2nd floor shares the forest look but gets noticebly darker. The trainers now use Ghourgeist, Trevenant, Cacturne and Shiftry or there prevos. Theres less trainers on this floor and theyre stronger.
The 3rd floor is the sort of dark you need to use flash to see in and is a small maze to the gym leader.
When you reach the leader he gives some line about pokemon being about predicting your opponent or making them do what you want
He then reveals his dark team with pokemon ike weavile, krookodile and honchkrow which are capable of targeting the types that somene would use against grass an of moves like pursuit and sucker punch which rely on reads
