You're all severely missing the point.
As Pokemon fans, of course we like BW2/Gen V/etc. because it offers the most to us from a Pokemon perspective.
However, think of it like this: Every gen from I to V has been built on the same winning formula that we have fallen in love with:
>Walk in the long grass to find wild Pokemon >Catch them with Pokeballs
>Carry only 6 at any given time
>Battle trainers and gym leaders
>Elemental types
Plus many many more as well as the minor touches - the map layout, the battle view, trainers having an exclamation mark over their head when they want a battle.
Every core gameplay aspect that you choose to overlook were completely original at the time of Gen I and was an incredibly expansive RPG on very restrictive hardware. All these things that we love were created with Gen I - that is the core original creative idea.
Everything else since then has only been built on top of this formula, I'm not saying that's bad - it's brilliant for us hardcore fans, but in terms of raw creative input - it doesn't stand up against the originators.
It's silly to pick on a few mechanics that hadn't been properly ironed out. When you consider how much they got right compared to what they got wrong - it's a no contest.
Stop hating Gen I because you hate the people who like it. You must be pretty fucking young if you've never encountered people who are blinded by nostalgia in your life, you will continue to find people like this: Get over it.
