Hello /vp/. I had a random memory, it had to do with certain NPCs besides your rival in Gen 1 (and probably their remakes, haven't checked) having starter Pokemon as well. Namely, a JrTrainer, later Camper, right above Vermilion City having a Lv 20 Squirtle and a Cool Trainer, later Ace Trainer, having a Charizard in Indigo Plateau.
Has this ever happened in future Pokemon games, or was it a one time thing due to Gen1 having a limited selection of Pokemon? Well, maybe besides the trainers in Battle Towers. My memory might be fuzzy and this might've happened in newer games, so please consider that.
How did they manage to get these one-of-a-kind Pokemon?
