I want the new Pokemon to be the highlight of the region, and not be hidden behind a shitload of old Pokemon. I don't think "quality over quantity" is a perfect reason, because Pokemon designs are very subjective. A hundred or so new Pokemon does not equate to less effort being put into the designs, it just means more Pokemon, and that is only a net positive because it increases the likelihood of encountering and establishing new favorites.
