Reposting important research, the dub has a consistent trend regarding vocal music
Gen 1 = Pop rock, often veering into pop and disco, often using elements of gospel. Might have been music that they were nostalgic for, because these genres were falling out of style in the 90s. Their resurgence is often attributed to pokemon itself
Gen 2 = Rock, occasionally dipping into Pop Punk. Probably to set itself apart from gen 1. As an "Evolution" of gen 1
Gen 3 = Entirely Pop Punk taking bits of hard rock. Solidifying itself as the next stage. This genre was also extremely popular in the mid 2000s, especially among children. Associated with disney sitcoms and skateboard games.
Gen 4 = Starting with rap, then dance pop until the very ending on classic rock. Any thematic tie ends here, Gen 4's dub was a production mess
Gen 5 = entirely Alternative Rock. Because America maybe?
Gen 6 = starts with an alternative rock recreation of the original, then the entire series is punk rock. Might be because of Pokemon origins, as well as gen 6 beginning the gen 1 nostalgia train, but the actual gen 6 anime is not NEARLY as self referential as its music choices might have you beleieve
Gen 7 = Reggae, then R&B, then reggae again. Because tropics
Gen 8 = Synth Pop. No idea
