The coolest thing in LGPE was the fact that you didn't just have pokemon follow you, but you could RIDE some of them. That was only possible because the dex was so small for that game so they could put in that extra touch.
S/S doesn't seem to have any of that yet. There may be something that they are holding off on showing us that does have that kind of extra care, but if they do they really should have shown it along with this announcement.
Instead we got the Wild Area which, while a step in the right direction, is clearly not up to the same quality as the rest of the game we've seen so far. That threw things totally in the wrong direction to go with this announcement.
