I've various things like the staff wanted an easier to draw show for a while after XY's use of 3D motion ruined their workflow, that they wanted a more cartoony series that could compete with Yokai Watch, and that TPC just didn't care after XYZ and "handsome Ash" didn't spike ratings. I have no idea if any of that has any merit, but It's kind of fitting that this was the series that found its way onto Disney in the US.
