I think this game was rushed and GameFreak knew this game is gonna be shit, that's why they didn't show so many new pokemon in the trailers to avoid criticism and even
decide to ignore Galar Region for the anime. Probably they wanted to just fullfill the schedule so they can make more merchandise of the series.
Along the way they realized that the designs and region were shit but it was too late to cancel the games...
