Not that Ash would have ended up with anyone on screen anyway, but IIRC there were people ranting on Omode's twitter that she didn't allow Ash/Serena to dance. Omode even apologized for getting fans hopes up. Of course there were the death threats that were sent when her return was announced and that was shit too, but the more radical folks on both sides were quite unhinged for something that wouldn't have had a true conclusion (marriage on screen) anyway.
