More objectively, early Pokemon trainers had a sort of athletic hiker look which fit the premise of the Pokemon series well, and Kris captured it perfectly. Now considering that HGSS is a game were you: travel mostly on foot through two regions, compete in a Pokatehtlon, manage an expansive wild life preserve, and said game even comes with the most accurate pedometer ever made, was this really the time to drop the hiker look? Lyra looks more like an Animal Crossing character. Also I swear Ile seen an American Girl doll with an outfit just like Lyra's but I can' remember which one.
