>>50688282The franchises have a totally different focus. Pokemon at its core is about the GAMES. Digimon at its core is about the ANIME. The Pokemon games are mostly consistently good and fun, while the Digimon games vary wildly in quality. The Digimon anime may be far better than the Pokemon anime, but it is not very accessible, DVDs and streaming services only provide the horrible hacked-up dubbed version while the actually good Japanese version can only be watched via piracy.
Also Bandai just doesn't care that much about Digimon and barely advertises it anywhere. Digimon is still successful. It's one of the highest grossing anime franchises raking in over $6 billion. Sure that's nothing compared to the over $100 billion Pokemon makes, but it's still a good number for a franchise that isn't super mainstream.
Also in general Digimon is just a very, well, "Japanese" franchise. Most of the shows consist of Japanese kids getting isekai'd into the digital world. Pokemon is set entirely in its own world separate from our own with no cultural barriers or anything.
That's what I think anyway. I'm a big fan of both but I generally find Pokemon more appealing.
