Yea you can powerlevel just your starter. Go ahead. Its boring and not very interesting but if you want the most cold clinical lifelessly efficient way of blasting through pokemon I suppose yea its probably the best way.
But raising 6 monsters is more fun. Not necessarily more challenging but less robotic and terminatorily efficient. There are usually lots of cool mons that are fun to use. There arent any regions that I cant find at least 6 critters I like enough to keep around and at least try using.
