It's a dark day for my Black run as well. Continuing my curse, which I only broke in Platinum, my starter died in the 20's. Teacup took a crit Wake-Up-Slap followed by a crit Low Kick from a Timburr in Cold Storage.
I added Frozone to the team and trained him up to fight Clay, figured it'd be an easy fight. It went down like this.
>Grandma vs Krokorock, OHKOs with Razor Leaf
>Grandma vs Excadrill, Rock Slide is SE and would 2HKO, switch to Nixon since he tanks with Eviolite.
>Excadrill uses Hone Claws!
> Go for Dig
>Excadrill uses Hone Claws!
> Hit Dig, doesn't do enough to 2HKO
> Even with 2x Claws, Excadrill Slash can't 2HKO Nixon.
> Go for another Dig, Excadrill takes it, and heals
> Hits another Slash, then switches to Bulldoze and slaughters Nixon.
> Switch into Kim Poison, Giga Drain can 3HKO

I didn't want to use Skyking, Frozone, or Harambe Jr because they hadn't yet reached their full potential. The others died protecting them ;_;
From here, I did a bunch of training, and the new squad is ready to move on.
