The idea is that since Corphish can survive in any enviroment, after invading Hoenn it further adapted by evolving into Crawdaunt and taking a piece of Sharpedo's ecological niche (the fact that Corpish can evolve into Crawdaunt in other regions can be atributed to gameplay-and-story-segregation).
