They really weren't well thought-out.
>Surely people playing these games will enjoy gameplay basically featuring no aspect of the actual game
>Surely people will enjoy this so much they'll play enough to be able to buy mid-late game items and Pokemon
>Surely nobody will just treat this as a big cash sink to get maybe 1 of the options by the same game point
Every playthrough, the game corner is just a big ticket shop to get one of ice beam / flamethrower / thunderbolt or maybe a pokemon. I'd much prefer a literal "premium shop" where this stuff costs the same amount. It's a lot more fun to see
>Porygon: 200,000 pokedollars
Because that is such a ludicrous amount early in the game, and a moderate grind even later in the game. It's a clearer goal, with a clearer payoff instead of converting to coins. We already have mini games with the battle frontier / tower / contests, and those all actually use your Pokemon.
Even if the corner wasn't neutered by gambling laws, it would have been cut anyways. Probably would have been replaced with Gacha machines, which were functionally introduced anyways with the wonder trade system.
I don't miss it, and I hate when I have to interact with it because it could just be better.
