As someone who literally never watched the anime outside of my childhood and only came here and started watching again during the Masters 8, some of you seem to vastly overestimate the anime's, especially Ash's, importance.
The greater world does not give a fuck about the anime. And I'm talking about the greater world of the pokemon fandom, not just everyday life people who don't know what a pokey-man is. We truly don't care about the anime or Ash. Whenever Ash appears in our romhacks, our fanfics, our fan videos, or our fan porn, it's always the Ash we saw when we were kids who still cared about the anime. We don't care about your terrible anime that went on for 20 years longer than it should have, and just like with me and many others, we only spared our attention in its direction when it was announced that Ash was finally winning a tournament for once in his life and retiring.
We don't like Ash. We like the character that appeared in our childhood show. The shitmonger that's been on the screen for the last several seasons is not him, we're not kids anymore and we don't watch this butchered thing. We moved on to better shows. Horizon's is better so far.
As an aside, the Goh hate really confused me when I first joined here. He was chasing after Mew with a team of experienced trainers, and I was thinking wtf is so wrong with that? That's like the primo pokemon shit right there, it's what we do in the games. It wasn't until someone posted this and explained the story behind it that I understood, lol. Even still, Mew wasn't a jobber like Suicune was, and I've been told the other legendaries they chased required full raid battles to deal with, and sometimes they failed to beat them, so I'm still not entirely clued in on the Goh hate. Other than those theories people have posted of Ashfags being jealous and afraid of Goh replacing their self insert
