Lopunny got a Fighting typing and the ability to target Ghosts with its primary STAB. Gyarados got a mix up between its regular form with 2 fantastic abilities and a ground typing or a Mega with a more situational ability but more explosive raw power and a psychic immunity. Mega Gardevoir was a Fairy cannon before Tapu Lele usurped its position. Beedrill got to be a min maxed glass cannon. And Sableye was a giant fuck you to status mons.
Megas either saved shitmons by giving them a boost in power or a change in playstyle. And even then they didn't end up broken since only about 3 out of the group ended up being oppressively strong. Fuck you. The only problem with Mega was that some Pokemon who didn't need them got them and some Pokemon that desperately needed one never got it.
