>>50191338A really big part of DW1 that deserves praise is the art design, world design, and atmosphere. It's the biggest part missing from Re;Digitize or Next Order. I still find the pre-rendered backgrounds beautiful. Every screen is hand-crafted and framed to create a particular mood, with an OST better than it had any right to be. The world that feels initially strange and hostile feels more and more comfortable and efficient to navigate as you progress. There's always a mystery to what you'll encounter next, and an excitement, because any Digimon you recruit may change your game plan dramatically.
Overall, I prefer Pokemon to Digimon, because Pokemon is overwhelmingly more consistent in quality and there is so much of the Digimon franchise that I do not enjoy. But Digimon World 1 is my favorite monster raising game and probably always will be.
