It's interesting that he wrote the anime with boyhood and nostalgia in mind and he wanted that to be the centerpiece of the anime rather than battles, he even mentions how nobody ages. Really interesting perspective nobody really knows about due to being in a blog in Japanese. He also mentions the thing about the animation errors and real animals for the first time here that he goes on to mention in another post.
