>>56392704>What was your first pokemon game?Diamond (watched a kid play Ruby on the bus though).
>What generation did you have peak enjoyment with the franchise?Gen 4, coincidentally my first generation had the perfect mix of art and leaving things up to the imagination.
>What in your opinion is the best mainline game, and what is your favorite spinoff?Probably Emerald overall, Platinum and HGSS are pretty good too though.
>At what point do you think the soul was lost and the magic died? The "soul" probably died with the end of Sinnoh, mainly because that seems to be when Game Freak accomplished everything they wanted to accomplish with the series at that point (literally added the god Pokémon). Doesn't mean I hate all the games that came after that, but it definitely became more about fleshing out the Pokémon world and making new things that would get demographics they haven't already assimilated a reasons to give the games/franchise a try.
>What do you think the future of pokemon is?More content, not much soul. Even with more development time, the games will probably be more fun, but they won't feel like they're anything more than just the latest product, but I feel like Game Freak came to terms with that years ago.
>Who is your favorite pokemon?Tangrowth
>>56393649>Almost unanimous consensus that the games soul and quality was lost when it moved to 3D (especially the 3DS) with many wishing to go back to spritesWhile I generally agree with this, I think the main reason this is the consensus is because this is when it became harder for people's minds to fill in the gaps with their own imagination. It feels like, unless Nintendo, TPC, Game Freak, etc. is willing to put in AAA levels of effort and money, there's not gonna be much of a reason to use anything more than static sprites with simple, organic animations. They should just go the OG Final Fantasy remake route and either emulate the PSP remakes or the recent mobile game remakes.
